Over the winter, I have suffered some setbacks, but have managed to move through these and find some consistency heading through into spring.
The start of winter went really well, with consistency in training. I was finding some good form heading into cross country season, and so was confident heading into Liverpool Cross Challenge. Unfortunately, I fell ill in the week before the race, and wasn't able to run on the day.
After this illness, I managed to get into some good form again, winning the Lancashire XC champs for u20. Unfortunately, the start of the year and January led to more illness, struggling to find consistency in training.
As I neared my first training camp of the year, in Aguilas, Spain, I managed to catch Covid, which meant around a week of no training at all. This drastically changed my training camp, but I managed to gain some fitness back on the camp, putting down some good times in the swim test set on the final day, and also putting together a decent week of training, starting off with mainly easy training, but transitioning into a few hard sessions nearing the end of the camp. This included some sea swimming to improve our skills in the open water, especially managing waves which will come into use for international races.
Following on from camp, I managed to find some good rhythm in training, heading into the first race of the season at Performance Assessments. Also, I have gained selection for the World Duathlon Championships in Ibiza, which will give me a goal to look towards for the coming weeks.
